Every single person referred to our service will receive an initial assessment no matter what and we will always endeavour to support someone referred to us even if, after further exploration / speaking to the individual about what they want and need, they don’t want befriending or have more support in place than was first thought (which is quite common!). Please see the diagram below for full details of our referral process.
Although we recognise that feelings of loneliness can negatively affect many people, our goal is to help older people who are quite literally hidden behind closed doors. Our criteria reflects our aim so we only find volunteer befrienders for older people (aged 65+) who have limited or no family or friends in their network which as a result means they spend long periods of time alone.
Our service is available to elderly people living across the City of Brighton and Hove however we are working alongside Sussex Police and the National Linking Lives Befriending project to develop a model of replication that can be brought in to other areas of need across the County. For further details please contact us on 01273 737710.
We ask for honest and transparent information to be shared with us about the person being referred at all times so that we can help to support them in the best way possible.
