Referral Process

Upon receipt of the referral we endeavour to make contact with the person being referred by telephone within a 1-3 week time-frame. If we are unable to speak to the person being referred we will leave a message (if possible) and try again within a 1-3 week time-frame.

An initial assessment will be undertaken over the telephone. Based on the outcome of the conversation we will arrange a home visit with a view to matching the scheme member with a trained and vetted volunteer. The referrer will be updated of our progress at this stage.

Our aim is to match older people with like-minded volunteers rather than just meet the need. We treat all referrals individually and match people based on personality, interests, strengths and location therefore the process can take anywhere between 0-6 months. We will however communicate with the scheme member during the process to update them.

We will update the referrer of our progress again once a volunteer befriending has been identified and introduced.
We undertake a review of the befriending match after 3 months of the friendship. Yearly reviews are undertaken thereafter.
