Volunteering

Since January 2019 we have offered chaplaincy to our scheme members. Our chaplaincy service is called ‘Anna Chaplaincy’ and has been developed thanks to a partnership with the Bible Reading Fellowship. When business as usual is operating home visits to provide Holy Communion, Bible Studies and Prayer are the norm. However during the current COVID19 crisis we are offering telephone support while home visits can no longer take place.

During this difficult time, many more of our scheme members have been asking for regular prayer and devotionals over the phone. For those who aren’t Christians we will actively help them to access spiritual care through a faith group of their choice. But for those who would like to receive prayer and pastoral support from our team of Christian chaplains we can provide regular telephone calls at this time.

Our in house Chaplain Julie is coordinating the process. As the numbers continue to grow we are looking for more volunteers who we like to call Anna Friends to join the team. Julie will provide material to use during your telephone conversation with the scheme member we match you with. She will also provide further guidance about how to provide spiritual care to older people once you are inducted with the charity.

Our Anna Friends must poses the following qualities:

  • Have a heart for older people.
  • Have experience of praying with people.
  • Be a good active listener.
  • Be in attendance at a Church where a reference can be sought from the Pastor/Reverend/Vicar/Church Leader.
  • Show a good understanding of the difficulties that older people are facing during this time.
  • Be willing to become a telephone befriender for company and friendship if we are over subscribed with chaplaincy volunteer enquiries.
